History and Future
Building stuff has been a passion of mine for a long time. Growing up on a farm allowed me to
experiment with ideas and materials.
I would have to say my Dad started this craze, he had built this when I was very young.
This worked out pretty good for a
few winter seasons, then I sold the
quad with the setup.
I lived to tell about it, so I consider
that a success.
A 1986 Honda 250R was purchased soon after, big improvement over the LT,
but still lacked some horse power. After riding a buddies 1989 Suzuki
LT500R, I knew what motor I wanted when this 250 blew up. The Honda
chassis and counterbalanced LT500 motor.
I was 17 and started working with CNC machines for the first time. I designed
and made the motor mounts and a new intake manifold for the 1987 LT500
into a 250R swap.

After confirming that this setup was going to work, and it does quite well, the horse power was boosted to about 60 at the rear wheels. To contain the power on the top
end, I O-ringed the head and installed a spring steel base gasket. Stainless steel crank bearing sleeves were installed to keep the bearings from walking around in
the aluminum cases and a Magura hydraulic hand clutch from a KX 500 MX bike was adapted to fit on. (I still have this in running condition)
This worked very well for every type of riding condition it endured. (MX, Hare scrambles, Road racing, dirt drags and trail riding)
Yes, Those rear rims and tires are front
tires off of a John Deere Lawn tractor.
Cut to a sharp edge with a saws-all, they
worked very well in the local grass drags.
Off road trucks is another hobby of mine. A 1 ton Chevy S-10 is still in the works. Full Hydraulic
front steering mounts and brackets were machined to take the abuse of 40" tires and rough
offroad. (That's a Dana 60 Front end)
22" was shortened from the
frame and reinforced with .250
plate. Side rocker guards that
double as air tanks were
fabricated up by myself.
One of my first projects that I built and tested out were a set of skis for my 1985 Suzuki LT250
ATV. I built this when I was about 14 with a plasma cutter and a stick welder.
Currently motorcycles and travel are consuming my life, I purchased a new 2006 KTM 950
ADV S in June of 06, my life has not been the same since.
Wayne Petrie of Petrie Motorsports is partially
to blame for this. If you are in the South
Eastern part of Wisconsin he always has
some great toys on his shop floor that are
worth the stop in.

Hello,
I race AMA, disctrict 16, on a KTM 950 Adventure and Super
Enduro. I've raced this bike in Supermoto at Road America,
MX, Hair scrambles, Hillclimbs, and TT.

I grew up racing ATVs on everything from ICE to Woods in my
20's.
I have completed a Lee Parks total control bike training
coarse and taken part in track days on this bike. Riding in the
Intermediate class.
I have been riding motorcycles for over 10 yrs and have over
150,000 miles on bikes. I have over 100,000 miles on my
current 2006 KTM 950 Adventure bike that I built and
maintain. This spring I put together and maintained 3 KTM
950 Adventures that rode from Wisconsin to Kodiak Island,
Alaska; up to Prudoe Bay, Alaska; then down the continental
Divide into Mexico. 17,000 miles, 60 days- (50 nights
camping in a tent). Over 4,000 miles off road on geared up
Adventure bikes. This took skill, stamina, and perseverance.

I have been to Colorado several times criss-crossing the
states. I've ridden up Pike Peak when it was Dirt/ snow.

I enjoy challenging myself at new events on machines others
wouldn't. I may not be the fastest, but only once have I not
completed a race in over 20yrs. I love the feeling of being on
a bike and giving it my best.
thank you,
Craig
