Exploring the Rubicon Trail - Craig Johnson

Exploring the Rubicon Trail – Craig Johnson

This will be our 8th Tech workshop event – If you’ve not had a chance to join one, now is your chance to check it out.  Limited space will be available for this event.  Sign up now.

All of our Fun rides and most Orgianized Rides around the country now use GPS tracks for rider guidence on the trails.  Many times we find riders show up to a ride with a brand new GPS unit and have no idea how to use it.   This leaves the rider frustrated and confused.  Worried more about the GPS than enoying the Ride.   With these skills you can start to enjoy these rides at your own pace and HAVE FUN.

CJ Designs is working on more Workshops in 2015 paired up with group rides to learn and use these skills.   Certain skill sets will be required to go on more advanced rides in the future.   This is your chance to get a jump start at our first GPS class.

We will be focusing on GPS units that allow TRACKS to be loaded and built by the GPS.    The Garmin 60 series is a very popular unit and works very well for hiking and Dual Sport use.  I have been using a 60cx for the last 6 years and it’s been on the bike for trips around the state as well as longer trips to Alaska and Mexico.  All riders going on our Fun rides will be required to have a GPS and know how to use it on future advanced level rides.

If you have a laptop that you use with your GPS, bring it along.  We will be going over loading tracks and way points in and out of your GPS unit and editing the tracks.

If you don’t have a GPS, but are interested in seeing what unit might work best for your next trip or future purchase, you are welcome as well.

We will be working in small groups, so if you don’t have a GPS we will pair you up with someone that does.

If you just got a GPS and don’t have it mounted on the bike, don’t worry about it as we will go over some mounting options at the workshop.   The GPS navigation part will be done off the bike on our GPS course as to allow us to go over more info easier.  Yelling through helmets and over running engines makes it much harder to learn and there is no need to worry about riding skills at this time.  Pack some comfortable hiking boots as well as riding gear for Sunday’s Fun ride.

Evenings we will be able to go over our camping setups.  (tents/sleeping bags/ cooking gear/ food options/ bike luggage and gear)

As well as basic bike prep and things to think about before you head out.   2 hrs at home can save you 2 days on the road.

All Bikes and rider skills are welcome.

Free primative tent space (water, toilets, no shower) at the Workshop location.

Hotels are also available in Thorp, WI – about 13 miles away.  There are 2 options
