REBUILDING LC8 BASKET
BEFORE
AFTER
I use a mill to end mill the heads of the rivets
off. Others have said you can drill them off
too.
Once the heads are off, use a 1/4 hardened
dowel and a press to remove the rest of the
rivets. I have found it takes about 1500 psi to
remove the rivets.
Directions are given as guide lines to follow.
There may be better ways, this is what I have
done.
Any damage done during your installation to
the new basket or your original parts are not
covered by any warranty. That is why we offer
rebuild service.
Pull the top plate off and you will find 3
steal bushings. Remove them. Be careful
of sharp edges on all parts.
I hold them in a lathe and bore them open to .383".
Remove all the other parts, clean so they are free of any metal chips from rivet head
removal. Be sure to note the orientation of parts as the come apart.
In order to make the basket as strong as
possible I used 6MM bolts to hold it back
together. In order to do so I needed to
make the stainless studs a little larger than
the original rivets. Open the 3 holes on
both plates to .384" w/ a reamer on a drill
press. A hand Dremel and some patience
will do too. Don't remove too much, only
enough to fit on the basket.
Reassemble in reverse order.
I use a 20 Ton Press to reinstall
Rivets back to Factory build setup.
Now you're ready for many 1,000s
of worry free miles.
I have over 40,000 miles on mine
now and it still looks as good as the
day it went in.
